A Full Circle Community Campaign
A Community-Funded Fellowship Supporting Sherann Alkins’ Doctoral Studies at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work
“For more than twenty years, I’ve had the privilege of pouring into students, families, and communities. This doctorate is the next chapter of that commitment. I’m deeply grateful to the people who believe in this work and choose to invest in it alongside me, so the research and leadership it supports can continue serving young people and the learning communities that serve them.”

A Full Circle Community Campaign
The Fellowship for Good is a community-funded investment in doctoral education, practice-based leadership, and the next generation of practitioners who deserve someone in the room who has already done the work. Twenty years in the field built the foundation. The DSW closes the loop — and opens the cycle for every student who comes next.
Pursuing a Doctorate in Social Work at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work — grounded in two Grand Challenges: ensuring the healthy development of all youth, and harnessing technology for social good.
Designing practice-based tools for learning communities — built from research, informed by over two decades of experience, and centered on protecting student brilliance.
Building toward a mission-driven 501(c)(3) — so this work outlasts the doctorate and becomes a resource other practitioners, women, and communities can access, replicate, and own.
Why the Fellowship for Good — and not GoFundMe or Kickstarter?
Platforms like GoFundMe and Kickstarter are built for broad campaigns, not sustained academic work. GoFundMe reports that only about 27% of campaigns reach their goal. Kickstarter’s publishing category performs better, with roughly 60–65% of projects successfully funded — but only if the full goal is met, and the platform takes about a 5% fee plus payment processing costs.
The Fellowship for Good takes a different approach.
This is direct, community-funded gifting — where every contribution goes fully toward tuition, research, conferences, academic costs, and the work of protecting student brilliance.
No platform cuts. No tipping prompts. No intermediaries.
Just community, investing directly in the work and the impact it’s designed to create.
The Conviction
The Arc
Social work is increasingly being deprofessionalized and has long been underfunded, even though communities rely on it every day.
After more than twenty years protecting student brilliance and advocating for young people, this doctoral journey at USC marks a new chapter in that work.
Through my Substack, I will share the story of this journey in real time — the research, the learning, and what it means to build systems that support young people from the start.
The Fellowship for Good makes that work possible, investing in research and leadership that strengthen the future of social work and the students it serves.
Family
As a wife, daughter, sister, and mother of two neurodiverse children, protecting student brilliance is not just the work of my career — it is the work of my life.
For more than twenty years, I have shown up for other people’s children — advocating, building systems, and protecting the brilliance that too often goes unseen. At home, my own children remind me every day that brilliance does not come in one form and that too many systems were never designed to recognize it.
This doctoral journey is part of changing that reality. It carries the lessons from classrooms, communities, and my own living room into research and leadership that can reshape how young people are supported.
The Fellowship for Good allows this work to continue. When you contribute, you are investing in a future where more children are seen, supported, and able to thrive exactly as they are.
“Twenty years built the foundation. The doctorate builds what comes next.”

The Fellowship Wall
When the community sows in, the story doesn’t just move forward — it multiplies. Here, the voices of those who chose to be part of the Fellowship for Good.
“Twenty years of watching you show up for other people’s children. This is the least we can do.”
“She protected my child when the system failed him. This fellowship is the only answer I have.”
“The frameworks she built changed how I practice. I’m pouring back because the cycle demands it.”
“You modeled what it looks like to lead without losing yourself. Now it’s our turn to hold the light.”
“You saw my brilliance before I could. I will invest in yours for as long as it takes.”
“I learned how to stay in the work because of how you stayed. Proud to be part of this fellowship.”

When was the last time you were truly poured into?
What becomes possible when women gather to build, restore, and give forward?
The Pour is a curated series of intimate gatherings created specifically for women entrepreneurs who believe in investing in leadership, scholarship, and community impact.
Across the doctoral journey, each experience brings women together for connection, creativity, and restoration while directly supporting The Fellowship for Good. Every ticket helps fund Sherann Alkins’ tuition, conference fees, research, and the continued work of protecting student brilliance through practitioner-led scholarship.
The gatherings are intentionally small and experiential — spaces where women entrepreneurs can build relationships, exchange ideas, and pour into work that strengthens communities.
